Dechert LLP is a law firm that has a distinguished and long history of practicing law. Prior to the current name and incarnation, the firm prior to Dechert LLP was MacVeagh and Bispham, which was formed in 1875. The firm started with a rich American history that brought much recognition and the tradition continues to this day. Recently Steven Engel joined the Dechert firm and now once again takes his place among an impressive list of white collar lawyers that work there. Engel worked at the firm but left to serve at the Department of Justice as the Assistant Attorney General. 


While at the law firm Engel will work on trial law, regulatory, white collar, and appellate cases. Engel’s time at the Department of Justice brought him the opportunity to serve as the chief counsel for the District Attorney. Before joining Dechert, he was also the main legal adviser to the Executive Branch of the government, which included advising the President and cabinet secretaries. 


Engel brings his vast array of legal knowledge and government experience back to the firm after having worked there from 2009 to 2017. Along with his trial and law experience, Engel’s educational background includes; Yale Law School (J.D.), the University of Cambridge (M.Phil.), and Harvard College (A.B.). Engel will work at the Dechert law firm as a partner in the Washington D.C. and New York offices. Dechert LLC has 350 lawyers in 21 offices in the US, Asia, and the Middle East, giving them a global reach and experience when it comes to matters of legal advice.
